This is my projects page which from time to time will change and show some of the stuff I've been working on lately. I will post everything here and then dissceminate everything from here throughout my website as it evolves or comes to fruition. So if you miss it here be sure to look throughout the rest of my site for the finished or almost finished project.

Kiln Shelf Modifications - I've aquired a tile cutter for a few days and will be modifying the bottom shelfs for my new, electric converted to gas, kiln. So, to get things started I had to figure out what type of shelves I needed as per the temprature I would be firing. This is actually an important aspect of kiln building and modification because there are so many different ways to fire ceramics. Since I'm going to stay beneath cone 7, I ordered two 1" thick cordierite shelves 12" x 24" for the base and four 10" x 20" stacking shelves. These will provide a stable platform and can handle cone 10 tempratures with no problem. I also have to take into consideration the fact that the inlet will shoot flames across the bottom of these shelves so the temperature will be a little hotter at this point then in the rest of the kiln. Thus, the bottom shelves will be raisded 1 and a half bricks high, approximately 6" off the bottom.
Since the kiln is octogon shaped I had to cut the corners so it would fit into the kiln. This however also proved to help in the directing of the flame and heat on the inside of the kiln. As you can tell I've test fitted everything in the kiln and have posted the pictures above. You can also see a couple of clips that I've posted on You Tube that show the process of cutting as well as the test fitting of the shelves. If you have any questions please email me through my website and I'll be happy to share what I've learned. Here is the link to my You Tube posts that show a few clips on this subject - Click Here.

Wedging Table - Since starting my wedging table project I have all but completed it. You can find the entire project link through the menu at the top of the site. I plan on adding a couple of things like hooks for hanging tools and one large one for the electricle cord and varathane to protect the wood portions on the table. I think it'll last me a few years though! Kiln Modification - My biggest project at the moment is my kiln conversion project. I've tracked down two slightly used electric kilns to convert them to gas so I can experiment at home and hopefully create some great looking pieces of art. After starting back to school and taking quiet a few classes ranging from figure drawing to ceramic art, I believe I've found something that seriously peaks my interest and tests all my senses. So stay tuned for the updates and videos! You can find everything on the kiln building link at the top of the page. |
