"13 Artists hand picked for unique exhibit"

That was the way it read in the local news paper. Yes, I'm pretty proud of my first real showing. I've been in a couple of other shows but this one was special and showcased a piece I'm very proud of. The piece that I submitted for the showing was one that I completed while attending Bakersfield College and I would have to say that it wouldn't have been completed if it hadn't been for Emily Madigan who is an instructor at the college. With a little nudging here and there she got me to complete it although it wasn't in time for the school showing. Out of the two and a half years I've spent at the college I haven't gotten anything into their showings. As you can see from the picture below I was blown away when I walked in a saw my sculpture in the front as you walked in!

The whole night was very exciting and the amount of people that attended was truely amazing. I'm glad to see people taking and interest in an almost forgotten art. True there are other parts of the country and world that celebrate art and ceramics is a big part of it, but I've not seen that here in Bakersfield. But, thanks to Mr and Mrs Younger I think last Friday was a big infusion towards bringing ceramics to the forefront in Kern county.

As you can see from all the pictures here the night was filled with conversation, h'orderves, refreshments and great art. I've added some of the artwork below in a small gallery to show the great talent we have here in Bakersfield. It was truely amazing and I hope to talked to those who were in the show. I would love to learn from them and trade knowledge.

The show is continueing through September 22nd and the times are 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday or by appointment. Please stop by and look at all the art being shown, you'll be amazed!
